Absolutely, at our school, we're all about asking the inspiring question, "WWJD? What Would Jesus Do?" Jesus isn't just a figure from the past; He's our ultimate role model, guiding our every step.
Our students dive deep into the incredible story of the Silent Saint, our Patron Saint, Saint Joseph. We explore his pivotal role in Jesus' life and draw valuable lessons from his unwavering dedication.
But we don't stop at just talking the talk; we're all about walking the walk! Our passion fosters a profound love for our Catholic Faith, making it an integral part of our daily lives. Beyond the usual religious practices, we're committed to providing our students with daily opportunities for spiritual growth and forging a stronger, more profound connection with God.
We at Saint Joseph School start our school year by gathering to celebrate The Mass of the Holy Spirit. We attend Mass on the First Friday of each month. In addition, special Masses are held throughout the school year, including our creative Fifth Graders participating in a special All Saints' Day Mass in which each studies, dresses as, and speaks about, a Saint of their choosing. We close the school year with a Mass for Grades K-7. Our 8th Grade Commencement Ceremony includes the Last Mass as our students graduate!
Many of our SJS students are prepared by Parish Staff to serve at Mass as Altar Servers. We are proud of the holiness and dignity they exude on the Altar!
At Saint Joseph School, our adorable Second Grade students prepare for First Reconciliation and receive their First Holy Communion and our wonderful Eighth Grade students prepare for Confirmation with the collaboration of our Pastor, Teacher, Director of Religious Education, and their families. The dignity demonstrated on these special occasions is memorable for all involved.
In order to develop an intrinsic Catholic spirit of service in our students, at SJS our Children's Ministry provides routine, consistent and active service projects. For example, every Tuesday after school, our students voluntarily visit a local nursing home where they interact with the residents; before holidays, classes of students visit a variety of settings to spread blessings and good cheer to those less fortunate. The deep happiness these projects provide can be seen on the faces of all of the participants, who continuously benefit! Our students and their families are very generous and participate in projects such as The Jesus Stockings, which provide warm socks, toiletries and letters of encouragement to the homeless of NYC. We donate money to a Catholic School in Nicaragua through our Mite Box Project. To honor our US Armed Forces, the children collect and send Care Packages to our troops overseas! These are just a few of the incredibly meaningful, memorable and exciting projects SJS students love to do!
